Q&A – How Do I Know Whether I’ve Truly Been Saved?

How do I know whether I’ve truly been saved?
The answer to this question can be found in a single question: Why did you choose to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior?
I won’t lie. I have seen people in church or at youth events raise their hands to receive Christ as their Savior simply because they thought they were supposed to, not because they really desired this in their hearts.
The only way (that I know of, anyway) on how to be confident in our salvation is a two step process:
- We have to ask ourselves some hard questions. Why did I choose to accept the Lord? Was my heart in it? Do I really desire to have a relationship with God? Do I believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead?
- We have to trust God’s word. Romans 10:9-10 – “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.”
If you aren’t sure that you have been saved, but in your heart you truly desire a relationship with God, simply pray. Tell God that you do believe that He sent His son Jesus to die for your sins and that He raised Jesus from the dead. Ask Jesus to come live in your heart and change you into the person He has always planned for you to be.
1 Timothy 2:3-4 – This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.
