This is me with absolutely no makeup. I used to never leave the house without it. Junior year I was always wearing makeup wherever I went because I believed it made me more beautiful than I actually am. I wanted boys to like me, and I wanted to be like the other pretty girls at my school. I was poor, and needed help from organizations partner with the school systems to help me get the clothes and school supplies I needed to, and I hated being looked at with pity. And I thought makeup would make me more beautiful. But somewhere around senior year, I was sick and tired of it. I hated the maintenance, and how it messed up my skin. So I stopped wearing makeup. As an actress, I have to wear makeup when I’m on set or on stage, but that’s the only time I wear it. Right afterwards, I always wash my face. When I accepted God a year ago, I was not in the best place, but I’ve learned that natural beauty is as good as any. I look in the mirror or take a picture and I see what I look like and how God gave me this natural beauty that is exotic, I sometimes can’t believe how He did that. When I read Proverbs 31, I hated how I never measured up to her, but God recently showed me that we are all this woman at some point in our lives. Over time, we will achieve what she has done, and sometimes, not to the T because that’s not who God made us to be. But something that I recently discovered that made me bask in God’s greatness is that never once do we know what the Proverbs 31 woman looks like. Her physical characteristics are not mentioned. What makes her beautiful is her devotion to her husband and family, and her selflessness and love for God. And that is exactly what I try to achieve every day.(:
