Singer-Songwriter Jae Jin on “Building Holy-Wood” Podcast Discusses Overcoming Depression, Following Dreams and More
Written by Christi Given | August 24, 2018
This week, I interviewed singer-songwriter Jae Jin for my podcast “Building Holy-Wood in Media, Music and Technology.” Jin is an amazing and talented artist, and is a person who is genuine and authentic. His love for people and his down-to-earth nature really captivate you when you speak to him. I love how vulnerable and humble he is, despite all the success he has had. He definitely wants to help uplift, encourage and inspire people around him to make the world a better place.

Jin’s latest album is called Letters and Drinks and shares different songs in different genre and style categories of music. Jin is not your typical artist, as he has crowdfunded, traveled around the globe and essentially became a self-made, independent artist. With over 14,000 followers on Instagram, a crowdfunded album under his belt and his own international tour, Jin has really come a long way. Within the past four years, he has traveled all over, from Korea to Atlanta, and he’s now living in downtown Los Angeles.
Jin’s goal is to start conversation, create community and love people authentically. His songs are expressions of suffering, love and loss (one song he wrote was about his friend who unfortunately committed suicide), and even he wrote a song about how he was battling depression and overcame it. Jin has a college degree and was about to attend university to finish his master’s, but through a series of events, including getting cancer, going through chemotherapy and being healed, he decided to sell everything and pursue his love of music.

Jin’s style and sound of music reminds me of Gavin DeGraw-meets-Michael Bublé. He is really a diverse artist and has even produced many of his tracks. Jin has worked with different cool people such as Grammy- and Dove-winning artist Rudy Currence, the Contemporary Christian band Tim Be Told and more. His three albums are Kairos (which is the Greek word for the perfect timing of God), Baltimore Boulevard and Letters and Drinks.
