The Importance of Daily Repentance and a Relationship With God
Written by Christi Given | April 28, 2018
Every day we need to seek God the Father first and we need to ask Jesus for forgiveness and daily repentance. We must examine ourselves and see if we are in the faith. It’s easy to point out others’ flaws, but we must not judge others if we’re not living what we’re saying. We must always ask Christ to wash us with His Word, to cover us with the precious blood of Jesus and to renew our minds. We must always aim to honor God and to be mindful of our actions and how they affect others.
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? (2 Corinthians 13:5)
We must repent or turn from our old habits and behaviors that do not honor God. All of us have fallen short of God’s glory and we all must realize we will give an account for any reckless words or actions we may have said. No one is righteous or holy without the blood of Jesus shed on Calvary. No one is better than the other because we all have missed the mark.
From that time Jesus began to preach his message: “Turn away from your sins, because the Kingdom of heaven is near.” (Matthew 4:17)
We must have a contrite heart and lowly spirit, and we must seek God’s forgiveness daily so we can be made right with God. We must read God’s Word daily and communicate with the Father what is weighing on our hearts. We must stay in the fellowship of the body of Christ so we can help one another. The Bible says that “iron sharpens iron,” so we must try to be accountable to each other (Proverbs 27:17).
So watch what you do! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. (Luke 17:3)
It’s very healthy and wise to have a mentor over you helping you, and having someone who isn’t as strong in the faith under you that you mentor and disciple. The Lord commands us to baptize people, to spread the Gospel and to disciple others. We must not just stop at getting people saved or saying the sinner’s prayer, but get them in a daily relationship with the Father through the Son Jesus Christ and through the workings of the Holy Spirit.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit… (Matthew 28:19)
Do you have any unaddressed sin in your life? We all need to confess our sins daily so that Jesus can cleanse us and change our sins from scarlet to white as snow. We must stay in step with the spirit of God and resist the flesh and the enemy, and we will grow in your walk with God. We all want to grow deeper and no one ever stops growing, even in old age.
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and “turn” from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
We all need the family of Christ and the body of believers because we are not designed to do life alone. I encourage you to get in a healthy church, Bible study or community group, and dig deeper in the scriptures together with other believers outside of Sunday service. God will help you to grow deeper not only with Him, but with his bride, the body of Christ.
