Tips for Fabulous, Natural Makeup in 5 Minutes!

Recently, a friend of a friend came to me for makeup advice. She had worn makeup only twice in her life and she’s also the type who has a pretty busy life. I thought that her time constraints and unfamiliarity with makeup would be relate-able to teen girls (who get up very early and have little time to get ready for a busy school day).  So, here I’m sharing my tips for a fast, fabulous and natural look!

Tips for fabulous makeup in five minutes!

  1. Skin Remember this: If your skin looks good, you look good. Once you have an even skin tone you look much more polished. For most people, this will mean light foundation on select areas of the face, usually the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Make sure foundation is blended well! Try using a light layer all over and just a bit more in areas where it’s needed. Almay makes an amazing foundation called Nearly Naked that looks incredibly natural. Tip! – Putting a light layer of foundation on your eyelids before your eyeshadow makes the shadow last longer without creasing or fading!
  2. Eyes Just a sweep of shimmer eyeshadow in a neutral color on the lid and blended up to the crease gives the eye a lot of dimension without the effort of shading the eye’s bone structure. Maybelline’s line of ExpertWear eyeshadows has some great neutral single shadows.
  3. Lashes Mascara can really define the eyes with very little effort and is an easy alternative to liner which can be tricky to master. CoverGirl LashBlast Volume is a very lash-defining mascara that gives a lot of volume.
  4. Cheeks You only need a little blush to perk up your face! Try to pick neutral colors that would naturally show in your face when you blush and place it on the apple of the cheek without getting too close to your nose. L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Blush is one of the best quality blushes on the market.
  5. Shimmer Find an eyeshadow that’s shimmery and slightly lighter than your skin tone. Place this on the top of your cheekbones, down the nose and a little on the forehead and chin. This will give you a dewy and fresh-looking complexion and highlight your beautiful, God-given bone structure! I have had a lot of luck finding these types of colors in the Maybelline line I mentioned under number two.
  6. Lips A lightly tinted gloss or balm is a perfect finishing touch to a quick and easy yet beautiful look! Try to find one with sunscreen to protect your lips from the sun. E.l.f. makes Super Glossy Lip Shine with SPF 15.

I hope a few of these tips speed up your morning routine and make you look amazing! Let me know what your morning beauty routine is and if you plan to add any steps or take some away!

great article! lots of my friends wear dark bronzer and an overabundance of powder. they also pile on eyeline and mascara. I can’t stand that look! I always try to go for a very natural look with my makeup!!
Usually I wear a thin line of eye liner, a coat or maybe two of mascara, some silver or very light blue eyesdhadow, foundation or concealer and powder. I wear blush when I have the time. When I’m really pressed for time I just swipe on some eyeliner (because even without other eye makeup it makes my eyes look so much better!) and powder.

For my makeup routine, I have ten steps.

    1.) wash hands!
    2.) Conceal under eyes
3.) Moisturizer or foundation (Usually moisturizer)
4.) Pressed powder (Matches skin tone)
5.) Blush (Usually a light pink or peach)
6.) Natural colored shadow (Brown, Beige, ect)
7.) Mascara (Black, brown or clear)
    8.) Curl lashes
    9.) Lip balm
10.) Gloss (light pink or just shimmery.

    And your done! 🙂

I totally go for the natural look. One of my friends thought I only use Eyeliner and mascara. Turns out I don’t use mascara, I just have some thick eyelashes. But she was surprised when I went through my entire makeup routine.

I really like covergirl lipstain! It’s pretty good, but I’m terrible at picking out shades and colors. These are some great tips.

i love this article. i have a friend who wears makeup and it doesnt look natural at all. she wears dark eyeshadow, eye liner, and black mascara even though she has blonde hair. Some people who wear makeup dont try to make it look natural and it ends up looking like theyre trying too hard. This really helps!

Isn’t makeup so fun?! I respect girls when I see them with a natural face (light makeup is fine), it means they aren’t ashamed of who they are.
I love some concealer for under the eyes, mascara, eyeliner (only on the top lid), and I am ready to roll!

I never knew makeup was this easy! I tried making a cat eye with pencil mascara… and blue eyeshadow for an Eragon party… yah…. It looked really fake. Thank you for posting this!

I love that (makeup) idea, though! And the party sounds really fun- I love those books haha! I agree, though, I despise when makeup looks fake so I generally don’t even wear any. Maybe on the weekends, I’ll usually put on some eyeshadow and a light blush and lipgloss, but that’s it. Anyway, fun idea!

great tips…personally, I think under-eye concealer is important, especially if you were up late the night before studying! also, cream blushes are great- they look dewy and natural, and can also be used on lips for a polished tied-together look.

hey, @Kate , do you know of any good concealers? All the ones I’ve tried look too pasty, thick or orange-y…even the expensive ones!

This is such a great article 🙂 So many teenage girls don’t look natural at all with the amount of makeup they pile on, and I think this is wonderful 🙂 I like to wear a shimmery peach eyeliner in addition to some of the things mentioned above, I think it defines my eyes well enough, but doesn’t look as dramatic as black or gray (which I wear for special occasions 🙂 ). Thank you again!

I plan to use eyeliner, simply because I love it… It makes my eyes look bigger and brighter.
