Top 10 Coats and Jackets for Fall

If you couldn’t already tell, over here at PI we’re thrilled it’s finally fall. Between the changing leaves, fancy coffee drinks and comfy scarves galore, we’re in a state of total brisk-weather elation! We know how much you gals love your boots…but who has already broken out their favorite fall and winter coats and jackets? We went on a mission to find 10 options (of a medium-level weight/warmth) that are adorable and affordable. We can’t wait to see what you think and hear about your own picks!

MILITARY

Military-style jackets are super well-constructed and can be worn open and loose or buttoned up and tied at the waist with a belt, offering two very different looks. This double-breasted coat comes in a thick knit fabric with a soft fleece lining. It features a tie belt and two side pockets. Don’t love the olive color? It also comes in ivory. (Charlotte Russe, $30)

TOGGLE

While sometimes slightly annoying to fasten, toggles are an adorable accessory for a fall coat. Between the great ivory color, faux fur lining attached to the hoodie and the large pockets up front, we’re totally sold on this classic fleece-lined jacket. (Charlotte Russe, $35)

TIE-FRONT

Tie-front jackets with wide collars are gorgeous and allow you to layer differently every day while still being able to get your coat on and adjusted well. We’re digging this aztec print, but you could surely find the same style in basic black if that floats your boat! (Charlotte Russe, $30)

UTILITY

Simply put, utility jackets are all the rage this year. They’re cute on, come in many different colors and styles in all your favorite stores, are great for mild climates and perfect for outdoor activities where you might need to stay warmer (think: hiking). (Forever 21, $35). Looking for a bulkier, fur-trimmed version? Check this one out.

DOWN

Living somewhere with harsh winters? You’ll want to head straight to the down jackets, where the stuffed and fully lined coats will keep you warm and cozy, even through snowfall. This jacket, also available in black, features a removable (always appreciated!) faux fur hood and zippered pockets, making it an awesome choice for skiing and other winter activities. (Forever 21, $35)

TWILL BOMBER

Bombers, a popular look for leather jackets, are a sleek and hip style that’s modern and simple. Classic features include a rounded neckline, slanted pockets and elasticized hem and cuffs. We think the olive and black faux leather mix here makes for a great look. It won’t keep you super warm, but perfect for those in warmer climates where “winter” just means chilly nights. (Forever 21, $28)

LEATHER MOTO

We saw tons of awesome leather jackets at discounted prices from stores like Target, Delia’s and Charlotte Russe. You can get just about any color or style you want, too! But our favorite had to be this moto street-chic look that also comes in red, white and black. Navy is a fun, “different” choice that will still go with many things in your closet. Be forewarned: leather jackets are generally not as warm as a wool or down coat! (Forever 21, $25)

Love leather but want something slightly more fun? We’re totally digging this remixed jacket, also from Forever 21 ($30):

CLASSIC DOUBLE BREASTED IN BLACK

If you wear lots of crazy prints and need something that will go with absolutely everything while keeping you toasty, this wool double-breasted, fold-over-collar jacket is about to be your best friend. (Target, $21)

HOODED ANORAK IN FUN PRINTS

Furry hood? Check! Waist ties and roomy pockets? Check, check! If you love a fun print and definitely need a hood, we recommend checking out this anorak coat that comes in several awesome prints and colors. (Target, $20)

Girls, which of these jackets is your favorite? Do you already own a coat you love? If so, tell us about it! If not, where are you planning to search for the perfect coat?

The way I see it, the only kind of jacket I’m gonna be seeing is the down coats. I’ve been trying to find that kind of down coat in dark brown. And less than $30. Gonna be checking lots of thrift stores for some later. My favorite jackets were the Military and the down coat.

I hate buying winter jackets because they are all so big and ugly…this post just might have changed my opinion. So inexpensive, too!

I have my own favorite fall coat. It is a double breasted pea coat with a belt. It is this gorgeous purple color and it has a huge bow in the back. I LOVE it, these are cute but I am content with mine 😉
