Top 5 Handmade, Non-Toxic Nail Polishes
Written by Project Inspired | March 4, 2014
We know you girls love nail polish, and we do too! But as you also know, we love handmade and natural products, too. (To check out all of our Top 5 stories, including many on natural beauty products, go here!)
Why is it important to seek out handmade or organic and natural products? Nail polish is one of the beauty/personal care products that frequently contains toxic ingredients, so it’s important to make a careful decision about which brand you use! Educate yourself and be safe when buying anything that goes on your skin or nails.
And now, drum roll, please…here are our top five handmade nail polishes!
St. Patrick’s Day is coming up! You can sport the color of the day with this “Happy-Go-Lucky” green sparkle nail polish featuring little shamrocks. The clear polish base features holographic, metallic and matte glitters of different sizes and shapes. All Super Nails polishes are 5-FREE, vegan and free of formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde-resin, camphor and carmine. ($4)
Have you girls tried color changing nail polish? It’s pretty cool! This shade, called “Razzleberry,” is affected by the temperature of its surroundings (like cold weather, sunlight, cold or warm water, or holding a hot or cold drink). When cold, this polish is a deep purple, but it changes to various shades of purple and blue as it gets warm. If you have long nails, the base will be blue and the tips purple, like a super cool ombre effect! (Big T Ranch Soap, $9.50)
This white nail polish with colorful flecks is called “Total Eclipse.” White is often hard to wear as a standalone color (though it’s a very popular shade) because it’s easy to nick and get dirty. But the specks of color in this fun polish help make it stand out and prevent some of the obvious discolorations that may occur. (Glam Polish, $9)
We LOVE this “banana” nail polish, a jelly polish made in the brightest shade of neon yellow. It’s loaded with holographic shimmer and can be worn as a squishy jelly, or you can layer it over glitters for a colorful “jelly sandwich.” We know neon (and glitter, for that matter) are not for everyone, but the bright shades are totally in style and great for those who love to sport something bold. (The Nail Junkie, $10)
This awesome polish is a fairly shiny, opaque creme in a bold blue color. Completely handmade, the polish is smooth and made from a suspension base, thinner and related solvents, pure pigments, effect micas and flakes, and glitter. (Indigo Bananas, $10)
