Top 5 Natural Soaps We Love

Earlier this year, we taught you girls how to make handmade soap. Some of you mentioned you were having trouble finding ingredients or getting the actual process to succeed, so we thought we’d run down our five favorite handmade soaps that you can purchase.

So why is natural important when it comes to soap? Well, conventional soaps often contain nasty ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate and triclosan. It’s important to not only find a soap that you love (the way it smells, the way your skin reacts, etc.), but to make sure it’s also good for the environment and isn’t carrying scary toxins.

The following five natural soaps are all organic. With each purchase, you’ll be supporting local and handmade businesses and are more likely to get better results and more customization!

This lightly sweet, clean, intoxicatingly fresh floral with honeysuckle petals and crisp green grass soap also has notes of jasmine, musk, sweet mandarin, green rose and earthy leaf. A no-nonsense soap made from scratch using the cold process method, the moisturizing oils and moisturizing glycerin will leave your skin soft and fresh. (Bunny Butt Apothecary, $5.50)

This cold process, unscented soap contains activated charcoal that acts like a magnet in the presence of toxins; it adsorbs carbon-based toxins, rendering them ineffective (adsorption is a molecular adhesion of gases and liquids that dissolves solids to a surface). Only the finest food grade, bamboo-activated charcoal is used in this natural, handmade bar. Good for face or body! (Rocky Top Soap Shop, $6)

Lavender + mint = divine! Packed full of skin-nourishing oils, butter and clay, the soap produces an awesome lather that smells great. The Dead Sea clay, long used to benefit the skin, is known for gentle exfoliation, hydrating, fighting free radicals, absorbing dirt and toxins, purifying, toning/tightening skin and soothing eczema. Lastly, the lavender oil calms and neutralizes the skin while adding to an overall natural glow. (Soap Revolt Naturals, $6)

Made from scratch using the old-fashioned cold process method, this soap has a refreshing blend of raspberries with lemon, sugar and vanilla. Fortified with high-quality plant-based oils and simple ingredients, this luxurious soap gently cleanses and promotes moisturized skin with a bubbly lather. This vegan bar will have you feeling the summertime in the dead of winter! (Fabled Soap Co., $6.50)

This bar is scented with classic french lavender essential oil, making a lavender goat milk soap that is both great smelling and super moisturizing. Perfect for all-over daily use. Soap is cut by hand and each slice is beautifully imperfect. Each bar comes charmingly packaged and labeled, ready to use or gift. (Twenty Seven Soap, $5)

What’s your favorite soap? Would you ever use a natural soap? Which one of these looks the most appealing to you?
