Twins Born at 22 Weeks Show the Reality of the Beginning of Life

*Photograph in this post may be hard to see.*

A mother on Facebook wasn’t trying to go viral with a picture of her babies, but that is exactly what happened. Heather Ellis and her husband, Josh, heartbreakingly lost their twin boys when they were born too early to survive. She posted online the following note and photo:

“With all this talk of abortion right now, I want people to know that this is what a 22-week-old child looks like. This was just minutes after my twins passed away after living and breathing for about 30 minutes last November (Chase, the one on the right, looks different because he was in the sac without amniotic fluid for a couple days). It is legal to abort children at this age in way too many places. While I was holding my babies, wishing they would survive, babies at the same gestation that could have survived are being torn apart and discarded. It makes my heart sad. There are so many better options (adoption being my personal favorite). These are precious children of God. I love you Chase and Cooper, and I hope someone will see this and reconsider their choice.”

Soon after, support began pouring in from around the world. Within days the photo was shared over 81,000 times. Heather was extremely moved by the response. “It has been so cool to hear other people’s stories,” she said, “and to hear such positive things and people telling me that my babies have touched their lives.”

The baby on the right looks how my twin did. I had a dream about her when i was 6yrs old that we went up to Heaven in an elevator from her headstone and it was a happy town where people were walking and dogs and cats roaming. That was the only time i have ever had an image of her other than the baby pictures. I’ve had an angel nightlight(one of those big lights that’s meant to be outside for Christmas) since i was 6. I’m 19 now and still use it cause it feels like the angel represents God and my sister watching over me, i don’t feel safe without it.

I was born at 24 weeks at 15oz. My twin sister born stillborn at 21wks 6 days. My mom didn’t believe in miracles until i was born and actually survived. I have no cerebral palsy or mental retardation like the doctors thought i would. I had maybe a 20% chance of survival.
