Over the past couple of years, Christian films have become increasingly more popular. Not only have films like “I Can Only Imagine” and “Catching Faith 2” seen wild success but other films with Christian themes have as well.
This month two films premiered in theatres nationwide that showcase Christian elements and themes, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” a film about the life of Mister Roger’s, and “Harriet,” a biopic film about Harriet Tubman.
Below are the trailers for both films. Make sure to check them out, and let us know if you see them!
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” details the beloved life of Mister Rogers, an iconic TV personality, puppeteer, musician, writer, producer, and minister. The film follows the real-life story of how journalist Tom Junod and television star Mister Rogers became close friends after an initial newspaper interview.
The film not only follows the friendship between the two but also depicts Mister Rogers’s dedication to prayer and forgiveness, both on and off the big screen.
“Do you know what that means, to forgive?” Mr. Rogers, played by Tom Hanks, asks in the preview of the film called, “The Heart of the Story.”
“It’s a decision we make to release a person from the feelings of anger we have toward them,” he continued.
Mister Rogers also shares in the clip how he asked a sick man “to pray for me. I figure anyone who is going through what he is going through must be awfully close to God.”
“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” opened in theaters on Nov. 22. You can purchase tickets for the movie here.
In “Harriet”, Tony and Grammy Award-winning actress Cynthia Erivo plays the powerful character of Harriet Tubman. During a cast Q&A at the Urbanworld Film Festival in September, Erivo explained that she relied heavier on the power of prayer and worship music to help give her the strength to portray such a moving character.
“The only thing I could do, really, to center myself was to pray,” Erivo shared, according to AmboTV. “And I was listening to Gospel music just before I went in. And as I walked in to say that prayer, it didn’t feel like I was just saying it as Harriet. It felt like I was saying it as me.”
“Based on the thrilling and inspirational life of an iconic American freedom fighter, “Harriet,” tells the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes. Her courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history,” The synopsis for the film reads.
“Harriet” opened in theaters on Nov. 1. You can purchase tickets for the movie here.
