Want to be Empowered? Bring On the Worship!

Sometimes I feel powerless. I see things going on around me that need to be addressed and corrected or that are just plain wrong but I don’t feel strong enough to do anything about it. I feel powerless to affect any real change. Do you ever feel like that? Maybe you’ve seen things at your school, in your home or even in your own church that don’t quite add up according to God’s word. Maybe you’ve even felt that strange tugging on your heart like you should speak up about something but you just don’t feel empowered to do so.

That is where worship comes in! Worshiping God is how we invite the Holy Spirit to come and hang out with us.  God is powerful but He is also a gentleman. He wants to hang out with us, but He waits until we invite Him to do so. Check out what Jesus says to the disciples in Acts 1:8 and then read what happens in Acts chapter 2. I won’t tell you, I don’t want to spoil the surprise!

The next time that you feel powerless to effect a situation try this: Put on your favorite worship music (I really enjoy a band called Jesus Culture) and sing to God in your loudest voice. Sing just for God, He thinks that your voice is the most beautiful voice ever. Then wait and listen while the Lord speaks to your heart and empowers you to walk in His will and affect bigger change than you ever dreamed!

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him.  –Psalm 28:7

I read it! It was uplifting, thanks! I want to place my trust in God, but sometimes it’s hard to tell when He’s talking to me. But I’ll ask Him for courage, and for strength. I know He loves me.

When that happens, I just tell the devil to go away and I ask God for courage.

Kayla – You never have to be ashamed to admit to being human 🙂 I sometimes do other things when I know I should be doing my devotionals too. It is hard, but keep at it because He loves to spend time with us! Another good tip – don’t try to make your devotional time too long at first. Pick a small section of scripture to read and don’t say Amen when you pray during that time. Tell the Lord that you are not saying Amen because you want to stay in an attitude of prayer and you want to hear Him talk back 🙂

Amen girl! When we lift up a shout of praise, we take the focus of ourselves and focus on the Lord! Then we are filled with joy, peace and freedom! JEsus loves us and wants us to walk in the fruits of the spirit! <3 I love your article! Thank you!! <3

thank you Jenn for responding to my comment that really helps because sometimes i don’t wait long for God’s response. I hate to admit it but sometimes i do other things when i know i should do my devotional. But i have been going through a tough time, i felt like i was slipping from God. I know he hears me but i hate to not hear a response sometimes i’m not sure if it is God talking or just myself.

Hi Kayla – I know what you mean. Often when I am listening for the Lord to speak to me, I feel like I don’t hear anything, It can be a frustrating feeling for sure! Nicole is right, the Lord is ALWAYS listening when you pray, but sometimes I wonder if maybe the Lord wants to see how far we will go to hear him. For example, Let’s say that I pray for 15 minutes and then sit silently and wait for the Lord to speak to me, I wonder if he waits to see how long I am willing to sit silently and wait for his answer. Does that make sense?

We know that we are worthy of God’s time. The Word tells us so. We are so worthy of His time that He sent His son to die for us, but maybe sometimes the Lord stays silent for a while to see if we think that He is worthy of our time. Is He worth the time we could spend sleeping or watching t.v.? Would we rather spend time with Him than anything else? Will we keep on serving, obeying and spending time with Him even if He is making us wait for an answer? I think these are the things that God wants to know sometimes and maybe that is why He makes us wait to hear His sweet and loving voice. Keep praying Kayla, God surely hears you!

“So the Lord must wait for you to come to Him so He can show you His love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help.” Isaiah 30:18.

Whenever I see something not right I always feel the urge to speak up but before I do I always pray first for God to give me wisdom and I always have my mp3 at my side for music to praise God and encourage me! anytime I’m upset Praising God always makes me happy again. 🙂

hey Kayla- I know how you feel, because trust me this happens to me too! When you pray to God, do you ever have that inner voice telling you what to do, what is right, or what you should feel? Or do you feel an immediate sense of peace, and feel the Lord’s presence? I can promise you, EVERY TIME you pray, he is ALWAYS listening! You have to let your spirit be quiet, and when you hear that inner voice telling you what to do, that’s Him. I hope this helps 🙂
