Weekly Poll: What Are Your Favorite Books?

There’s really nothing for the imagination like reading a book. Sure, movies and TV tell us stories as well, but those are played out right in front of us and we don’t get to make any of the choices. With books, you have the ability to imagine things a certain way in your head–everything from exactly the way a character looks to their mannerisms. In fact, this difference is actually what makes it hard for people to enjoy the movie adaptations of books they love; the movies just don’t fulfill the ideas they had in their head while reading.

While it may be tough to find time to read as a busy teen, if nothing else, you’ll be reading books for class throughout your education. Reading is one of the oldest and cheapest (hello, public library!) forms of entertainment and we want to know all about your favorite books, writers and reading rituals.

Answer the polls below and then let us know more in the comments!

    1. I LOVE reading! ^^ Especially Fantasy Adventure!

      My fav. books –
      The Edge Chronicles
      Dragonlance – The New Adventures
The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom
      Hikaru No Go
and pretty much anything from Gail Carson Levien!

        • haha must be a homeschooler thing. I am homeschooled and I read those books, and all of my homeschool friends are like obsessed with them! (Posters of Frodo all over the walls and such) I also LOVE and I mean LOOOOOVVVVEEEE the Ranger’s Apprentice books! Best things EVER! Can’t wait for the 12th book to come out in october 😀

    2. I LOVE Reading so much! I don’t like reading overly descriptive books, but for school I much. I find Dickens and other “classics” as such quite boring. But I love reading fantasy, adventure, and sci fi. I like exciting books, but I love reading books by people who can incorporate meaning and action all at once. 🙂 Reading is basically just amazing. 🙂 I’ll admit to not having read Lord of the Rings or Narnia, but I’m not saying they are bad, just not for me. I love Skulduggery Pleasant, The First Test, Harry Potter, Inkheart (not the movie), and the list could go on and on. 🙂

    3. I LOVE READING!!!!!!!!! I am currently working on Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre 🙂 Along with some of my fun books by Lois Walfrid Johnson or Janette Oke. Oh and I also like Shakespeare 🙂

    4. I wish I read more………….I really should. I know I like reading fiction and romance. And…………..Christian material, of course 🙂 I recently read a book called The Language of Sisters by Amy Hatvany. It was SO GOOD!

    5. My Favorite Fiction:
The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo
The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer
The Westmark Trilogy by Lloyd Alexander

My favorite genre is fantasy, and my favorite author is Lloyd Alexander.

    6. I read once in a while, but since I am a really fast reader you could say I have read a lot of books! My favorite books are:
      Les Miserables
      Percy Jackson series
      The Bible of course!
      Soldier X
      The Help
      The Invention of Hugo Capret
      The Giver

    7. I love to read!! I read more then I watch tv. My favorites are fiction usualy vampires or supernatural but I like romance books too. And of course I love reading my Bible 🙂 Favorite book series: House of Night <3

      • I just got reading the hunger games series 🙂 I read the all in one day because I couldn’t put it down 🙂 in my bible study we talked about how it related to the bible and history. It was pretty interesting.

    8. I really like Sammy Keyes,Silent stranger,Shadow of the bear,Harry Potter,Deltora Quest,and Percy Jackson. 🙂
It’s really fun when two boy’s are competing over one girl,
or when there’s a snob in a book it helps keep things interesting like on the edge of your seat 🙂

    9. My primary genre is science fiction. I am aspiring to be a sci-fi author, and as you can imagine I devour science fiction like a Saiyan devours ramen noodles! My favorite books include:
      Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
C.S. Lewis’ Space Trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength)
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
      Anthem by Ayn Rand
      …and others.
I love the Sherlock Holmes short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
I am also a gigantic fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation novels. My favorite Star Trek author is Diane Duane, and two of her books that I absolutely love are Intellivore and Dark Mirror.
I am a fan of war novels as well, but I am definitely not keen on romance. I am addicted to classic novels such as The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Dracula by Bram Stoker, and even enduring Greek mythology like The Odessey and The Iliad by Homer. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte are the only two romance novels I actually like.

I am not a big fan of fantasy, although I do pay my respects to the genre. I love The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien and the Redwall series by Brian Jacques, but that’s about it.

I have a passion for intellectual subjects, and I hunger for knowledge. I keep an obscenely fat Thesaurus in my bookshelf for reference as I’m writing my novels, and my entire bookshelf is beset by classical and intellectual books. In fact, I own so many books that I have had to create a makeshift extra bookshelf on top of my bookshelf, if that makes sense. One of my favorites is The Dramatic Writer’s Companion by Will Dunne, which offers a very useful question format to help develop one’s characters in writing.

I think I’ll stop rambling now; I’m quite sure you get the picture.

    10. I love classics! Austen, Dickens, Gaskell, and all the rest. Gaskell is probably my favorite. I love, love, love ‘Wives & Daughters’
Also, though they aren’t really “reading” books, the Kerri Smith books are incredibly fun.

    11. I love reading. Some of my favorite books are:
      The Hunger Games Series
      Striking a Match Series
      Chronicles of Narnia Series
      Christy Miller Series
      Kingdom Keepers Series
      Books of Bayern Series
      River of Time Series
      Princess Academy Series
and that’s it lol. I also love reading magazines and online articles.

    12. I can never decide whether I like The Lord of the Rings or The Chronicles of Narnia better! I also really enjoy all the Sherlock Holmes stories, Montezuma’s Daughter, The Princess Adelina, and The Children of Odin.

    13. I love classics, historical fiction, and romance. Kind of a weird blend, but it works. 😉 I will honestly read just about anything though! My favorite books are probably Little Women, the Hunger Games series, Phantom of the Opera, The Fault in Our Stars (I cried sooo hard!) Maze Runner, and pretty much any Ann Rinaldi book.
