Weekly Survey: What Are Your Favorite Movies?

There’s just something about movies. Now, we know that not everyone is super obsessed with films–some gals would much rather take in a concert, have a TV marathon or go on a hike. But even the least likely cinephile probably has a few favorites. And that’s because, whether it’s happened a hundred times or only a few, movies have a real ability to impact you.

Maybe the storyline reminds you of yourself, your life or the life of someone you love. Perhaps you can’t relate to a character at all, but you can just feel what they’re going through and want to give them a big bear hug. Or maybe you deeply appreciate the acting, directing, cinematography, etc.

Whatever the case, our favorite films not only speak to us, they end up saying a lot about us! We’re interested to hear about YOUR favorite flicks, genres, actors and directors and the storylines you like and relate to!

Copy the questions below and then paste them (along with your answers) in the comments. We can’t wait to see what pops up!

    1. 1.) Hero, House of Flying Daggers, and Snatch

2.) Action thrillers mostly, but I like my whimsy

3.) One at the most; it’s expensive.

4.) I don’t really rent movies anymore…Thank you, Netflix! I love going to the theatre, but $8/month is better than $12 per film.

5.) Ooh…It’s a tie between Robert Downey Jr., Christian Bale, and James Marsters for actors; Angelina Jolie, Winona Ryder, and Alyson Hannigan are among my favorites.

6.) Guy Ritchie, Quentin Tarantino, and Joss Whedon are the best!

7.) I never listen to critics (ever), and I don’t bother with my family’s recommendations because my tastes have definitely diverted from theirs. I take recommendations from my boyfriend and from my friends, but I mostly decide for myself.

8.) I typically save movies for when I have someone else to watch it with me; if I’m by myself, I’ll watch a couple episodes of a series I’m working through.

9.) I take MYSELF to R-rated movies. Rating means very little to me these days.

10.) It depends on the film. If it’s something that appeals to my girly side, I’ll see it with my best friend and allow the boyfriend to stay home. I love going to see movies as a group because we always hang out afterward, no matter how late at night, and talk about what we liked/didn’t like about it.

      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under? – we usually stick to the PG and PG-13; R-Rated movies we do see are usually war movies like War Horse, etc.

      10. Who is your favorite person to see movies with and why? -either my friends or my mom….my friends b/c we have the same sense of humor and my mom b/c it’s quality family time.

    22. 1) UGGHHH THIS IS HARD. I love so many. Dx But I guess I’ll go with The Last Unicorn, Spirited Away and Hugo.
      2) Animated, I guess. It doesn’t really matter what genre of movie it is, just as long as it’s beautiful.
      3) I only go to the theater several times a year, so it varies.
      4) We rent movies fairly often. And seeing them at the theater and watching movies at home both have their pros and cons, so I like doing both. 🙂
      5) Actors: Elijah Wood, Daniel Radcliffe, Colin Morgan, Bradley James, Asa Butterfield and Orlando Bloom. Actresses: Emma Watson, Katie McGrath and Evanna Lynch.
      6) Hayao Miyazaki and Tim Burton!
      7) All of them. I read reviews on IMDB or a site similar to it, or if someone who has good taste in movies suggests something, I probably will see it.
      8) Nope, I still love movies. I’m not a big TV watcher. 😛
      9) PG-13 and under. The only R-rated movies I’ve seen were on TV…
      10) My sisters. We laugh and discuss hilarious things while watching, and it’s always a blast. xD

    23. 1. What are your top three favorite films? Lord of the Rings, You Can’t Take it with You, and Star Wars (the original)

      8. Do you think TV has become more fun to watch than movies, or do you think they’re both still good? I do watch TV, but there’s usually some episodes of TV shows that aren’t okay to watch

      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under? Nahhhhhh. Most R movies are just mindless gore and sex, and senseless violence. Not worth my time

      10. Who is your favorite person to see movies with, and why? My 3 friends. They’re all sisters and they’re like my best friends. they like everything that I like and they’re really good to discuss stuff with afterwards.

      Probably comedy
      3. How many movies would you say you see in a theater each month?
      One or none!
      4. How many movies do you rent and watch at home? Do you prefer this to going to the theater?
Redbox Rocks! I like the theater but it’s expensive
      5. Who is your favorite actor? Actress?
      Actress- Jennifer Lawerence!
      6. If you have one, who is your favorite director?
      …nope!
      7. How do you decide which movies to see? Critics, or friends and family recommendations?
friends and family, they know what I’m interested in!
      8. Do you think TV has become more fun to watch than movies, or do you think they’re both still good?
Movies are more fun because time passes a lot faster and TV is steadily getting worse…
      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under?
PG-13 and under, I’m easy to scare! annd don’t really like other stuff
      10. Who is your favorite person to see movies with, and why?
My friends, one in particular we think alike so it’s cool to watch with them!

    26. I don’t know about you guys, but I think a lot of PG-13 films are even worse than plenty of the R-rated films I’ve seen…It’s because the film industry KNOWS they can get a bigger audience for a PG-13 rated movie than for an R-rated one. They look for loopholes so they can turn the rating down. So, keep that in mind the next time you swear off R-rated movies, okay? Rating means next to nothing to the film companies as long as their wallets are kept fat, so it definitely shouldn’t be so big a deal to us as long as we’re using our better judgment when it comes to content.

    27. 1) Top three? I have too many favorite series and I can’t even just pick three series. 😉
      2) Action.
      3) Not many. Maybe 1 or 2. I prefer relaxing at home and watching something on DVD or Netflix. Not to mention that it’s expensive and I don’t have a job yet, so I feel bad for asking my parents for money.
      4) I don’t really rent stuff – mostly just Netflix or borrowing movies from friends – but yes. I like being in my own home where I can pause the movie if needed and I can just grab what I want from the fridge.
      5) Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.
      6) Don’t have one.
      7) Sometimes the trailer appeals to me. That’s what happened with Les Mis. Sometimes a friend recommends something to me. Which is how I got into the Dark Knight trilogy. Sometimes I just randomly find something somehow and it interests me. This usually happens with older movies. All depends. I sometimes look up reviews to make sure I’m not wasting my time watching it.
      8) I like them both. Sometimes, I prefer TV because I have the attention span of a goldfish and shorter episodes are nice. Even though some of the shows I watch last almost an hour (Sherlock is usually an hour and a half). But if the movie’s really good, then I’ll sit and watch.
      9) Well… my mom once took me to see Cabin in the Woods. It was a comedy horror movie, but one girl took her shirt off. I mean, I’m a girl, but I was still kind of horrified. I probably should have left. The violence actually didn’t really affect me. It was that scene that did. So it was a learning experience. The other R-rated movie I’ve seen is Slumdog Millionaire, which was absolutely brilliant. But for the most part, I stick to PG-13 and under. Though some PG-13 movies, I feel, are reeeeeeally close to R and some PG-13 movies kind of feel like they just barely got PG-13.
      10) Anyone who makes very few comments during the movie. 😉 I’m fine with a few comments here and there, but I do not like it when someone talks through the whole movie. I’ve been seeing more movies with my friends lately – I saw Les Mis with one friend and The Hobbit with a group of friends.

    28. 1. Oh my, I’m going to go with The Avengers, Captain America, anddddd…Finding Nemo

      2. I can watch just about anything, unless it’s ungodly or horror :3

      3. We to to the movies once a year or less, just because it’s expensive. So, 0 times a month. xP

      4. We have Netflix….I feel like the theatre is a real treat to go to, so if I had a choice it’d be there. 🙂

      5. I think the Marvel actors are really awesome. Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, Christ Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Natalie Portman, and of course there is Johnny Depp. xD

      6. Not sure…

      7. We usually decide by ratings and recommendations of family & friends 🙂

      8. Sometimes I like movies better than TV 🙂 they’re both getting pretty bad though

      9. The only R-rated movies I’ve seen are R-rated for a reason. (Like they’re war movies) We can only watch them because they are an important part of accurately representing history. We mostly stick to PG-13 and under.

      10. I’d say family & friends. The experience can be quite bonding.

    29. 1)My best friend’s wedding

3.) Around one or two–it depends on how much our family really wants to see them.

4.) A lot more than watching them in the cinema. Maybe around 4 or so. I love seeing them in the theater, because of the big screen and the experience. Like, when we went to see the Hobbit midnight premiere, it was just so cool, partly just because of the experience.

I don’t really stick around long enough to find out. But whoever directed Life of Pi is doing something right!

      I decide for myself.

      8. Do you think TV has become more fun to watch than movies, or do you think they’re both still good?
TV is practically all trash nowadays, I like movies better, since it’s at your demand. We have cable, but since we got Netflix, I haven’t watched cable, except for one occasion when Good Luck Charlie was on.

      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under?
I’ve never seen a r-rated movie in theater, but I’ve watched a couple of R-rated movies with my mom because of swearing and talk of sex, but then again, we watched Hunger Games that was rated PG-13 and had blood, gore, and violence… I’m not easily influenced, my mom trusts me.

      10. Who is your favorite person to see movies with, and why?
My (athiest) bestfriend Skye, because if it’s a christian movie, she’s cool with it, and she saw Life of Pi with me in theaters, and that was about God. But if there’s a movie I’m not comfortable with watching, she’s lenient and suggests something else. The only reason I mentioned that she was athiest is because of the examples of her respecting my religion and choices.

My dad loves the movies, and I usually just go to whichever one he’s going to.

      8. Do you think TV has become more fun to watch than movies, or do you think they’re both still good?
They’re both good, but it really does depend on the show/movie.

      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under?
The only R-rated movie I’ve ever seen was Psycho, a Hitchcock. It was rated R for “nudity” (the shower scene), but it actually didn’t show anything at all. “Nudity” had a different description back then: just the idea rather than the actual nudity itself counted as “nudity.”

      10. Who is your favorite person to see movies with, and why? My dad! He is the one I accredit for showing me what goes into a good movie.

    43. 1. What are your top three favorite films?
Rear Window, Pride and Prejudice, and the Sound of Music!
      2. What would you say is your favorite genre of film? (Think: comedy, drama, romance, action, adventure, sci-fi, etc.)
      Action!
      3. How many movies would you say you see in a theater each month?
      Once every two months!
      4. How many movies do you rent and watch at home? Do you prefer this to going to the theater?
Even less at home. I prefer the theater because my family won’t talk the whole time..

      Tom Cruise and Emma Watson.
      6. If you have one, who is your favorite director?
      Alfred Hitchcock

I decide which movies I want to see, thank you very much.
      8. Do you think TV has become more fun to watch than movies, or do you think they’re both still good?
Movies are infinitely better (except for Doctor Who, the best T.V. show EVER)
      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under?
Both. Only R-movies we see are ones with no sex.
      10. Who is your favorite person to see movies with, and why?
Probably my dad. It’s in his blood to make very redneck comments the whole time 😉

    44. 1. Casablanca; The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; and Princess Bride.

      2. I love a lot of types of movies. Probably my favorite is old thrillers and mysteries and new kids movies (especially animated).

      3. I see a few movies a year (last year I saw 5, which is probably a record for me).

      4. We don’t necessarily rent them (streaming movies, library, etc.), but we watch one movie a week.

      5. My favorite actor is Jimmy Stewart.

      6. My favorite director is Alfred Hitchcock.

      7. In my family, we each have weeks that are our week to pick a movie. We get new stuff that looks good (we like Plugged In’s reviews), classic movies, movies off of lists, and even just something that looks good on streaming.

      8. While I like watching old TV (I don’t watch anything currently on), I still prefer movies.

      9. I’ve seen two older R rated movies at home, but in general I stick to PG-13 or below or not rated at all because the movie is so old. (At the theater, I’ve seen 2 PG-13 movies and everything else has been PG or below because I love kids movies.)

      10. My parents because they’re really cool and fun. 🙂

    45. 1) October Baby, Tangled, and any of the Harry Potter movies

      2) Disney movies all the way

      3) Like once every 2 or 3 months

      4) I record and watch a lot of movies at home because I have DVR, and I like it better most of the time, unless I wanna go out with friends.

      5) I really like Emma Watson, but I don’t exactly have favorites

      6) No idea.. haha

      7) Friends normally, mostly other youth group members.

      8) I like movies better for the most part, because my life is usually too bust to keep up with a tv series

      9) My parents let me, and I sometimes do when my friends and I are having a scary movie night (nothing too bad or inappropriate though) but I usually stick to pg-13 and under.

      10) Again, I don’t really have a favorite
