Weekly Survey: What Are Your Favorite Movies?

There’s just something about movies. Now, we know that not everyone is super obsessed with films–some gals would much rather take in a concert, have a TV marathon or go on a hike. But even the least likely cinephile probably has a few favorites. And that’s because, whether it’s happened a hundred times or only a few, movies have a real ability to impact you.

Maybe the storyline reminds you of yourself, your life or the life of someone you love. Perhaps you can’t relate to a character at all, but you can just feel what they’re going through and want to give them a big bear hug. Or maybe you deeply appreciate the acting, directing, cinematography, etc.

Whatever the case, our favorite films not only speak to us, they end up saying a lot about us! We’re interested to hear about YOUR favorite flicks, genres, actors and directors and the storylines you like and relate to!

Copy the questions below and then paste them (along with your answers) in the comments. We can’t wait to see what pops up!

    1. 1. The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Avengers, Notorious.

      2. Romantic Comedy. (The old 1940’s kind)

      3. Usually, I only see one movie in theaters each year; there’s not much out there except junk nowadays.

      4. Almost all of my movies come from Netflix, and they’re all from the 1940’s. They best movie era of all time! 🙂 (For me, anyway.)

      6. Alfred Hitchcock. The Master of Suspense all the way!

      7. Classic movies, (50’s, 40’s, 30’s) are squeaky clean, I don’t bother with looking them up to see if they’re bad. But the rest of them, I look them up on Common Sense Media to see if I can watch it. That’s how I decide; if the age rating is above twelve, then I probably don’t want to see it.

      8. The only things I watch on TV is the news, and The Classic Movie channel. (TCM)I’m not big on television…

      9. Oh, heck to the N.O. Not in a bajillion years would they ever take me to those movies (not like I want to go.) I don’t like anything that’s going to make me cringe while watching it, so I stick to PG and under.

      6. If you have one, who is your favorite director? None

      7. How do you decide which movies to see? Critics, or friends and family recommendations?
      All three.
      8. Do you think TV has become more fun to watch than movies, or do you think they’re both still good? I like both! Sometimes TV is nice because it makes the story last longer, but other times I just want to watch something that doesn’t make me wait, in suspense, for the ending.

      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under? No, unless it was for a movie like “The King’s Speech”, but I wasn’t quite 17 yet when that came out. Otherwise, I am mostly a PG-13 and under girl. I try to be careful about what I watch, because I know when I’ve seen something, I can’t un-see it.

      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under? I have watched two R-rated movies, Braveheart and Act of Valor. I enjoyed both, but they were R-rated for a reason.

      4. How many movies do you rent and watch at home? Do you prefer this to going to the theater?

      8. Both still good, though TV is more readily accessible

      10. My best friend, Aubrey, because she loves seeing the animated movies and we get to laugh and comment on them. (Her fav is Rise of the Guardians)

    14. 1. What are your top three favorite films? The Harry Potter series, Easy A, and The Horse Boy (if u haven’t seen this documentary, I highly recommend it) OH and any of the first Disney movies! ♥ The Little Mermaid!!

      2. What would you say is your favorite genre of film? (Think: comedy, drama, romance, action, adventure, sci-fi, etc.) Romantic comedies

      3. How many movies would you say you see in a theater each month? Depends if I have my own money to spend! I’d say about one or two every other month

      4. How many movies do you rent and watch at home? Do you prefer this to going to the theater? My dad picks up movies from the local library for us to watch every weekend, and I do prefer it b/c there’s less ppl and less talking!

      10. Who is your favorite person to see movies with, and why? Family members b/c my friends honestly talk too much! But I still love ’em 🙂

    15. 1. What are your top three favorite films?
The Lord of the Rings (counting the entire trilogy as one), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (and will probably be adding The Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again to the list once they come out), and The Patriot.

      2. What would you say is your favorite genre of film? (Think: comedy, drama, romance, action, adventure, sci-fi, etc.)
I love action, adventure, fantasy/sci-fi, and historical fiction. Main reason: these genres tend to not be sappy. Don’t get me wrong, there are really good romances out there, but I’m a tomboy, so sappy annoys the heck out of me if it’s overkill.

      3. How many movies would you say you see in a theater each month?
I maybe see five or six movies in the theater a year. We don’t go that much at all. We’re remarkably picky.

      4. How many movies do you rent and watch at home? Do you prefer this to going to the theater?
We watch pretty much all of our movies at home, unless it looks crazy good or it’s based off of a book we like or something. There is something about watching a movie for the first time in a theater that makes it more exciting. Guess it’s because it’s loud and big. And there’s usually some sort of projection flying at my face because we usually see movies in 3D or IMAX.

      5. Who is your favorite actor? Actress?
That’s tough. For me, it’s more of the character that they portray than the actual actor/actress. However, I have a ton of respect for Jennifer Lawrence because of her stand against starving herself for Hollywood, and for Viggo Mortenson because the man is AMAZING with horses. Both are also talented actors, too. And ever since I was cast as Nikko (the captain of the Flying Monkeys) in my school’s production of the Wizard of Oz, I have new found respect for Andy Serkis!!

      6. If you have one, who is your favorite director?
Peter Jackson. The Lord of the Rings is the reason. 🙂

      7. How do you decide which movies to see? Critics, or friends and family recommendations?
We see what we think looks good. Sometimes it’s based on recommendations, but usually we see the trailers and pick what looks good to us. Can’t think of a time where it didn’t work. 🙂

      8. Do you think TV has become more fun to watch than movies, or do you think they’re both still good?
They’re both still good. But with both of them it goes that the older the show or movie the less junk there is in them…

      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under?
We never go and see R-rated movies in the theater, but there are some R-rated movies that were made thirteen or more years ago that we watch at home (The Patriot and The Last of the Mohicans…yeah…we’re history buffs!)

      10. Who is your favorite person to see movies with, and why?
I love to go with my best friend. Something funny ALWAYS happens. We also talk about the movie for HOURS (when we saw The Hobbit we were up until 2 AM just talking about the movie and watching a clip that we found over and over again…) We never have disagreements over what to see, because we like the same types of movies.

      • Another big thing for me with movies is they have to be relatively clean. Period. If Jesus were sitting with me while I were watching it (because He is in an essence), I wouldn’t want there to be anything in it that would make me feel guilty about it.

    16. 1. What are your top three favorite films?

      Lord of The Rings
      Inception
      A Tale of Two Sisters

      2. What would you say is your favorite genre of film? (Think: comedy, drama, romance, action, adventure, sci-fi, etc.)

Actor – Johnny Depp, Cary Grant
Actress – Bette Davis, Joan Crawford

      6. If you have one, who is your favorite director?

      Peter Jackson or Del Toro!

      7. How do you decide which movies to see? Critics, or friends and family recommendations?

If its clean or not, if it has high ratings.

      8. Do you think TV has become more fun to watch than movies, or do you think they’re both still good?

tv is boring. nothing good and clean.

      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under?

Ive never seen an r rated movie in theaters, but I see them all the time at home. So long as they arent dirty.

the cute guys! lol they are nice to look at. 😉

    17. 1. What are your top three favorite films? I’m going to cheat and count the Lord of the Rings trilogy as one. Two, probably the old cartoon Yellow Submarine (has anybody born in the last forty years even seen that? And three, probably the Tim Burton Charlie and the Chocolate factory (I am practically in love with Johnny Depp!). And fourth, even though it just said three, is probably Rise of the Guardians (JACK FROST!)

      2. What would you say is your favorite genre of film? (Think: comedy, drama, romance, action, adventure, sci-fi, etc.) I like movies that are usually categorized as action-adventure, like LoTR, but i can’t put up with mindless destruction. It has to have some meaning.

      3. How many movies would you say you see in a theater each month? One or two, because I live in a small town and the theater is run by a bunch of high schoolers and it’s really cheap.

      4. How many movies do you rent and watch at home? Do you prefer this to going to the theater? I will rent a movie if i missed it in the theater and I really wanted to see it. And it really depends on the movie. Some you just have to see for the first time in theaters for the full experience (like The Hobbit!)

      9. Do your parents ever take you to R-rated movies, or do you mostly stick with PG-13 and under? We mostly stick to PG-13 and under. The only R-rated movie i’ve ever seen all of was The King’s Speech, which actually wasn’t that bad, and was a phenomenal movie.

      10. Who is your favorite person to see movies with, and why? I like to see movies with my dad because we have the same sense of humor, and he refrains from making stupid comments throughout the entire thing, like my siblings do.

      • btw, for all of you romance-lovers out there, did I mention Benny and Joon? and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? and Ghost (which is a little racy, but it’s a good movie…my mom just likes it because when she was younger she had a crush on
