Every week, I go through the “Girl Talk” section of Project Inspired and look for those seeking advice and counsel. I want to help answer some questions you may have about living out your Christian life and walk of faith! We want PI to be a safe place where you can ask questions.
This week, a PI Girl asked which scriptures talk about God helping someone whose heart is broken. (If you would like to join the conversation, click here.) I found some key scriptures that can help you PI Girls out there who may be feeling the same way or dealing with the same question!
Jesus is concerned about our heartaches, pain, suffering, sadness and other issues we face in life. God loved us so much, He sent Jesus to live among us, and Jesus also faced temptation, pain and even deep sorrow. Before Christ was crucified, and was in the garden of Gethsemane, He knew what was to come, and was in agony. It says in the Holy Bible that Jesus began to sweat drops of blood (Luke 22:44). God understands our heartache, sorrow, our fears, our doubts.
”He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)
When Jesus was taken before the counselors and was questioned whether He was the messiah, many of the rulers ridiculed Him, spit in His face, laughed at Him and mocked Him (Luke 22:63). Imagine how Jesus felt knowing He was there to love them, not to offend them. He must have felt that brokenness in human-nature.
Thankfully, Jesus overcame the sin, sorrow, pain and death when He rose again on the third day after He was crucified (Luke 24:1). We are so blessed to know our loving God, and to see the lengths He goes to reach out, to show how much He loves us, with open arms on the cross (John 3:16).
HOPE When Your Heart Feels Broken:
1. Jesus said, “Your sorrow will turn into joy.”
“Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.” (John 16:20)
2. Jesus cares about your pain: God cares for you!
“…casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
3. Lean on your friends who can encourage you: we are called to do this!
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek, to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.” (Isaiah 61:1)
4. God is with you: He never forgets you!
“I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5 )
5. In life, things always get better: God has a plan!
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declared the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
