Christian Life

What is a Christian? Part Two

“You are my friends if you do what I command”. – John 15:14

In my opinion, the above quote is what defines a Christian life. The Bible says that we’re not saved by anything that we do but by faith in Jesus Christ alone.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9

However, the Bible also says:

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. – Ephesians 2:10

For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. – James 2:26

In what ways, then, do we live out our faith? We live out our faith in our actions, attitude, obedience and discipline. We do these things out of deep love for the Lord and through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us. Coming up in this series will be posts on different ways that we live out our faith. I will be covering issues like speech, humility, meditation, fasting, silence and solitude, how to study your Bible and more.

Now I want to ask you, is there anything about living out your faith that you would like me to write about? Leave your questions and suggestions in the comments below or if you would like to remain anonymous email them to projectinspired.com/contact.

I can’t wait to hear your suggestions!

But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” – James 2:18

I know this doesn’t have to do with being a Christian or anything…but is there a sin that God WON”T forgive even if you believe in Jesus? I never done this but if you blaspheme the Holy Spirit or worshiped Satan or did something else really bad? If anyone knows the truth answer…PLEASE! Tell me!

You should write on how to represent Christ by the way we talk and the things we do. Additionally, what a Christian can and cannot do.

How about the difference between an being an Undercover Christian – where nobody knows you are a Christian except maybe a few friends or family. And an Outgoing Christian meaning you spread Gods word and be a light and witness to Christ.

that’s a good point! Obviously it’s better to be an outgoing Christian- because sharing the word of God is important!

I want to study the Bible more. I see all these beautiful powerful quotes from the Bible that I know are in there, but I never seem to be able to stumble upon them myself. In your article about How to Study the Bible More could you include maybe some good starting points and suggestions?

That is exactly what James is trying to say. We cannot call ourselves Christians and then do nothing to show our faith. Our faith is a faith of action and we need to show it to others through our actions not just through our words 🙂

What about how our actions speak louder than our words do..

it IS true that actions speak louder than words, I agree with you!

I was just thinking about this last night. I think what James is really trying to say with the “faith without works is dead” is that you can’t just believe in God and then do nothing to show it. Calling yourself a Christian because of your faith and then not acting like a Christian is hypocritical. I think that, as Christians, we should try to become more and more like Christ (after all, Christian means little Christ). God is holy, and we should try to be holy and set apart from the world too. By loving others and standing up for what’s right you can make a huge impression on non-believers.

Exactly! Even demons know Jesus exist, but we Christians are different! We have to do what God wishes for us to do, and that is, as you said, try to become more like Christ!
