What It Really Means to Be Thankful

Ladies, with Thanksgiving coming up this week, I wanted to discuss what it means to be thankful. Usually when we thank God for our blessings, we think about the obvious things that make us happy. And we’re usually only thankful for them when we receive them and then all is forgotten. For example, if we get that cool phone we’ve always wanted, we’re so excited and thankful to our parents. Or maybe we’re thankful for our family and friends when we remember them during a fun Thanksgiving meal, but then we forget that blessing for the rest of the year.

But being thankful means so much more than that.

  1. It means finding something to be thankful for when you don’t feel thankful for anything. You have to look through the darkness to the light.
  2. It means being thankful for everything, even those everyday things that we totally forget about, such as a getting three meals a day or a bed to sleep in at night.

And being thankful is such a blessing in itself. Why?

  1. Because it brings out the best in you. Really! Gratitude makes you more appreciative of the smaller blessings.
  2. And it make you happier. Seriously, when you’re grateful for what you have, it changes your whole outlook on life. You recognize that you have been blessed, that you are continually blessed, and why wouldn’t that make you happy?

It’s not easy to be thankful, especially when things aren’t going well in your life. But these are the moments that test your faith and determine the strength of your relationship with Christ. So even when it seems as if God has forsaken you and you have nothing to be thankful for, think again.

The following is a really great reminder of the things we should never stop being thankful for. Check it out and share your thoughts in the comments below.

Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Ladies, do you forget to be thankful for your everyday blessings?

At the very end of July, we found out that my Granddad had a brain tumor. He just died on Monday. But, I get to spend Thanksgiving with my family from New York for the first time in my life, which I am very thankful for. I’m thankful my Granddad wasn’t in pain ever. I’m even thankful that we have had plenty of family meals without him already, because I think it makes Thanksgiving easier, already sort of being used to him not being at the table for family meals (my grandparents live right next door so we’ve been eating together a lot these past few months).

That video was excellent. I’ve certainly never thought to be thankful that I can process letters to words to sentences.
