What To Wear to Six Important Occasions

    1. School Dance

School dances are a perfect time to dress up! One of my favorite things to wear is a cute cocktail dress – it’s fun and a little bit flirty. Express has really cute dresses each season that are perfect for this occasion.

DO: Pair the dress with some kitten heels (since you’ll be dancing all night!). They won’t be too high but will still look cute!

DON’T: Wear a dress that too tight! And make sure that the hemline isn’t too short. A cocktail dress that hits at the knee is tres chic!

    2. Friend’s bar/bat mitzvah or confirmation (something taking place in church or synagogue)

If you’re going to this special celebration, you need to make sure to dress more conservatively since you’ll be in a place of worship. A great place to get cute affordable outfits that are perfect for this is Forever 21.

DO: For girls – stick to dresses that have sleeves. Try a pastel color such as light blue, purple, green or beige and avoid black. Or, you can wear a nice ¾ length skirt with a nice top. Your goal is to look pretty, yet tasteful.

DON’T: Wear spaghetti or strapless dresses. And no jeans!

Here’s a sample outfit I picked for you.

    3. Friend’s bar/bat mitzvah party (event taking place in the evening with all kids)

This is different than the synagogue for the bat mitzvah. For the party you can dress up a bit more!

DO: Go a little brighter with colors like pink, red, purple, etc. Just make sure your outfit is still tasteful. A cute floral skirt with a similar color top is always nice or a pretty dress!

DON’T: Wear black! Jeans are also still a no-no. After all it’s a big celebration of becoming an adult!

    4. Aunt’s wedding

DO:If you’re going to a wedding in a church – a cute knee-length skirt with a flow-y top or a pretty dress is always nice. If you’re going to a beach wedding, a cute long maxi dress will capture that exotic feel. Pair this look with nice sandals or flats.

DON’T: For a wedding, unless you’re the bride, don’t wear white!! You don’t want to show her up on her big day. I would avoid wearing beige, tan, or anything neutral similar to white. And make sure – no black, white, or spaghetti tops or jeans!

    5. A funeral

Funerals are never fun. And they’re DEFINITELY not the place to take fashion risks! You need to make sure you’re dressed tastefully and conservatively. However, don’t think that you must wear all black.

DO: A blouse or modest dressy shirt in navy, dark grey or another dark color is appropriate. Pair these looks with black pants or a knee-length black skirt with black high heels or flats.

DON’T: Sport an outrageous pattern. And no jeans!

    6. Holiday party

Holiday parties are so much fun to get dressed up for! One of my favorite stores to buy dresses for holiday parties is at Bebe. They’re always stocked with my favorite things.

DO: Try on anything with sparkles! Dresses that are a little fancy (satin, lace, silk) are perfect for the holiday celebration. There’s nothing cuter than a ruched dress with sparkly straps and a pair of silver heels!

DON’T: This is supposed to be fun – don’t forget to have a great time! You’re shopping for a party dress, live it up!

Here’s a cute dress (with awesome shoes) that I picked for you.
