When You Think Sin Wins, Look to Jesus
Written by Christi Given | October 14, 2015
Do you ever feel like you don’t measure up or that you cannot get out of habitual, repetitive sin(s)? Do you feel like you pray and want to change in your heart, but still feel ashamed or condemned?
My question for you is: Have you accepted Jesus as LORD—meaning He is number one—and have you asked for the Holy Spirit to come into your life?
Abide in the True Vine and Stay in Christ
We need to realize that over time, as we read the Word of God and remain in the vine of the power of prayer (John 15:5), we will gain strength and will be able to combat temptation. If we are IN Christ, we will defeat sin. My other question for you is: Are you in Christ? Here is a verse that is vital in the faith walk.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death… (Romans 8:1-2)
Remain in God’s Word and in Prayer
See, the key is that we have to be IN Christ. What does this mean? We need to be abiding (staying) in the Word of God. We cannot expect victory if we are not praying or reading the Bible. We can’t expect God to move in our lives if we don’t believe. We need to have faith.
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. (James 1:6)
Are You in Christ or Do You Call on God When You Need Something?
Remember that Jesus paid it all. Of course we have times of despair or moments where we feel like we are failures, but God realized we needed a Savior and that is WHY He stepped in. No one is perfect. It says in the Bible that no one is righteous and that we have the victory in Christ. We can’t do anything on our own, but only by the blood that was shed on the cross at Calvary more than 2,000 years ago for the sins of the world (John 3).
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)
Jesus Paid It All on the Cross…We Overcome Sin with New Life (Life Is in the Blood)
PI Girls, we need to remember we cannot earn salvation, but this isn’t a license to sin, either. God knows that we will fall short, but the thing is when you have a new life (the old passes away), when you truly are filled with God’s Holy Word, your desires change.
The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. (Proverbs 24:16)
We need to remember when we face sin and temptation, God always provides a way out, and even when we do sin, God is our Father and is very merciful toward us. We need to not rehearse sin that has already been forgiven. In the Bible it says that our sins were tossed into the deepest, darkest oceans and remembered no more…do you believe this? (Micah 7:19)
I think when we understand God’s love (which we can’t fully comprehend), we really don’t have a desire to sin because we want to worship God with our lives. We need a revelation on the mercy of the Father. God waits for you with open arms, just like the story of the prodigal son. God uses broken people in the Kingdom of God to show His glory. You are not alone—we are ALL sinners (Romans 3:1). We ALL need a Savior. Jesus loves you and wants you to have freedom.
As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one…” (Romans 3:10)
If you need freedom in this area, pray with me:
“Dear Jesus, Please help me not to walk in condemnation. Please forgive me of anything I have said or have done or anything that is hidden in my heart that doesn’t please you. I pray for you to cleanse my heart and mind with your Word, that I may honor you with my life and that I may have a new life and be born again through the cross that Jesus died on for me (through the blood that was shed), and may You, Lord, be my God and king for the rest of my days. I ask for peace rest in you, victory, no condemnation, and I ask for you to help me to walk in the spirit and to help others into your kingdom. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.”
I believe you are free, PI Girls! You are precious in God’s sight and the Lord is with you. Keep seeking Him and He will provide. Just believe. It says it is impossible to please God without faith, so even a little faith moves mountains. I believe God has great things in store for you and your life!
PI Girls, how have YOU overcome condemnation or fear of not being completely forgiven?
