Why Did Jesus Have to Come to Earth?
Written by Christi Given | December 25, 2018
During the Christmas holiday season, we are reminded of the birth of Christ, the Messiah and salvation. Why did God have to send His one and only son? (John 3) Why do we need a sacrificial lamb and savior?
The reason we need a sacrifice through the one and only son, Yeshua Hamashiach, is because we are all sinners and need the cross. We cannot earn our way to a Holy God, and the Lord sent Himself to pay the price. (John 1)
The Jewish people in biblical days knew the awaited messiah would come, and some still reject him to this day. Jesus Christ fulfilled all of the Old Testament prophecies. Christ came as savior, messiah, the awaited King and the Son of God, and also came to fulfill the scriptures.
Jesus came to defeat sin and death and to take the keys of Hades once and for all. He came to set the captives free, to die on a cross for the sins of the world and to be resurrected on the third day, proving He was God in the flesh. Christ came because God loves us so much and wants a relationship with us. The awaited lamb of God, who would take our place so we didn’t have to pay the penalty, came as the ultimate gift.
Jesus Yeshua came so we would know how to glorify God and reflect His character. He always gave honor and glory to the Father and taught us how to be meek, humble and gentle in character. Jesus taught us how to walk with God and the spirit, and He demonstrated what a holy, honorable life of obedience looks like. When Christ was unrecognized, He turned the other cheek. When He was betrayed by the ones he loved most, he forgave.
Jesus came to dine with us at the table and we will again eat with Him at the wedding supper of the lamb in heaven. The picture of communion represents the body and the blood of Christ. We partake in the fellowship of the supper of Christ as a symbol of how we eat and drink the daily manna (bread) and living water. God desires a relationship with you, and God made a way by sending his son.
Through the Holy Spirit, which was given after Christ was resurrected and ascended back to the Father, we have a free gift that helps us to navigate the walk of faith with God. Ask God to speak to you and to show you His will for your life through His scriptures and through the Holy Bible.
May you remember the real meaning of Christmas and cherish those around you. I pray that you realize how precious life is and how God cares about every detail of your life. I pray as you go into 2019 that you may surrender your will to God’s so He can work through you and that He may be glorified and edified.
