It’s hard being a Christian in a world that’s constantly bombarding you with information about impure activities. Television programs glamorize sex. Music lyrics encourage violence. Magazines endorse nudity. So, how do you have the courage to stand for God when many of your friends are falling into temptation?
Philippians 3:18-20 tells us that “many live as enemies of the cross of Christ…Their mind is on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven.”
As believers, we should understand that we’re ambassadors sent from Heaven to teach others about salvation and the goodness of God. So what does that mean in a practical sense?
It means that God wants to use YOU to motivate other girls.
God wants you to stand out from the crowd! When someone is being mean to a classmate, there’s nothing wrong with stepping in and saying that bullying isn’t cool. If a classmate wants to cheat on the next pop quiz, you can say no. When a friend tries to get you to drink alcohol or do drugs, just walk away. And remember, you can still be popular without having sex before you’re married!
You don’t have to do things or allow things to occur just to fit in!
Instead, you set the bar. You decide, based on God’s Word, what’s cool and what’s not. When you stand for what’s right, others will often fall in line. Many times your friends also know that something’s wrong but are afraid to speak up. It usually takes just one person to speak up and the others will follow.
Remember, being a leader for Christ doesn’t mean just quoting scripture. It’s always okay to quote the Word of God, but God also wants you to set an example. Teaching others with your actions is just as important as teaching them with your words!
God is always looking for leaders, but it’s up to you to accept the mission. Will you be a leader for God?
