Why Obedience to the Lord Is So Important and Leads to Blessings

Part of becoming a Christ follower is to be like a “little Christ.” We are to be disciples, or followers, of Jesus (Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah). Do you represent Christ with your lifestyle or do you just talk the talk? There are many talkers in this life. There are many people who say they believe and are Christians, but believing alone means nothing; as it says in the Bible, faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26). Believing isn’t enough to enter the Kingdom, as it says the demons believe and they shudder at the name of Jesus! Satan knows God is real and that Christ defeated sin and death, but that doesn’t make them followers of Christ.

You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. (James 2:19)

What does all of this have to do with obedience, you may ask? Why is obedience so important? All you really need to ask yourself when you choose to do something is ask “Would this glorify Yeshua, Jesus, my King?” If the answer is no, resist the enemy and temptation and you will get stronger. We know that religious works, traditions and our own efforts, of course, don’t get us into the Kingdom, but one thing Jesus says over and over is “if you love me, you will obey me” (John 14:15).

The Bible also talks about repentance. We know we all grow and become sanctified, purified and also transformed over time. We know this isn’t an overnight process, but we must walk in the spirit and be good children by obeying the Father. Bad kids don’t get rewarded, and we know disobedience is dishonor. We know that there are children of the devil and children of God. There are the wheat and the tares, the sheep and the goats. There are children of obedience and sons of disobedience. We have to know there is good and evil, wickedness and righteousness, and we must walk in pure obedience to God if we want to truly serve Him.

For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. (Hebrews 10:26)

We must listen to God and what He wants us to do as our Lord and King. Is Jesus LORD? Is He really the ruler of your life or are you? We must humble ourselves and repent just as Jesus said, for the days are evil and the generation is corrupt. God WANTS to bless us, but if we do not listen and obey as children of God, then we block our blessing. Do you want to block your blessings with willful disobedience, stubbornness or sin? Examine your heart and ask Jesus to remove anything that may not honor him.

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test. (2 Corinthians 13:5)

We all have flaws and sins and need to repent daily. None of us are exempt, amen? That’s why it’s called “daily repentance,” “daily bread,” “daily communion/communication” and a “daily relationship.” We need to continually and daily wash ourselves with the Word, feed our faith and abide in the vine. That’s why the Bible says to stay in step with the spirit so we won’t fulfill the desires of the flesh (sinful nature). We abide (remain) in the vine of the Lord through His Word (John 15).

Why do we need to continually soak in the word of life, the living water of the Bible? The Word of God is truth and it keeps us in the light, away from darkness and falsehood. The Bible says that our flesh and our hearts may fail us and deceive us, but the Word of God is to correct, and is sharper than a double-edged sword. It is our spiritual defense and weapon (Ephesians 6).

We must have the Word on the tip of our tongue, and always be ready to share and give an answer to the lost and broken in this fallen world who need a savior, amen? PI Girls, we are SO BLESSED to be called daughters of the King, and I encourage you to really examine your heart (not in condemnation, but in reverence of God) and see if there is anything you need to ask forgiveness about or grow in spiritually. Jesus will show you and the Holy Spirit will guide and comfort you. You’re not alone!

PI Girls, do you believe in obedience and blessings? If you were a parent, wouldn’t you want to reward a good child? Same goes for Abba Father, our Daddy in heaven! He cannot reward disobedience, so let us earn our crowns and be delighted to give them back to Jesus as we walk in the spirit and glorify our Father in heaven. Amen!
