You Are Enough by PI Girl Hannah

So, I don’t know about you, but I think that Hollywood and the media can be extremely misleading in terms of what to do in times of crisis, how to dress, how to fix your hair, etc. Thankfully, I do not seek out tabloids for the latest fashion frenzy or fitness craze, but it’s refreshing to see some people who do get attention from the media taking it seriously.

Musical theatre actress Sierra Boggess (best known for originating the role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid on Broadway and currently playing Christine Daae in The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway) has a quote that she leaves with all of her fans when she signs off in vlogs, interviews, blogs, Instagram posts, etc. It is this:

“You are enough. You are so enough it is unbelievable how enough you are.”

I don’t know if she is a Christian, but I do know that she wants to spread love and light in the world. Isn’t that awesome? Someone who is doing God’s work and she doesn’t even know it.

I know for me as a musical theatre actress myself that having someone like Sierra to look up to gives me encouragement—she constantly tells her fans that THEY ARE ENOUGH. I have even gone to writing that down in my journal every day. I AM ENOUGH. I am not defined by my failures, my weaknesses, my past. I am simply defined by my character, my morals, who I am as a person. Not only that, but I am defined in God. I am enough for Him. Right here, right now. No matter what I’ve done, where I’ve been, who I’ve been with, God still desperately wants a relationship with me. He longs for me to pursue Him and only Him.

Psalm 139:7-14 encompasses what this quote says, how we are enough and how we are made in God’s image:

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

The last two lines are incredibly beautiful—”I am fearfully and wonderfully made” is like saying “I am enough.” It’s beautiful that God showed me Sierra’s quote and showed me the scripture that I feel coincides with it.

You are enough. The love God has for you is never failing, unwavering and always faithful. Just pursue Him and ask Him into your life. He wants and loves you so much.

I understand that quote can lift up any girl’s spirit, but it’s not quite true. By ourselves, we aren’t enough. By ourselves, we are needy, broken sinners. WITH (or IN) Christ, we are complete. HE Himself IS Enough. Only He can pay our debt in full.
“And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.” (2 Cor 12:9).
It’s OKAY to be weak. 🙂 When we are weak, then we are strong because we have God on our side. We weren’t created to be totally self-sufficient; We were created to have a need for Christ and His love, truth, and grace. 🙂 Jesus loves you.
